House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

Urban Lodge has both modern and Craftsman influences, creating a unique home with clean lines in the interior and more texture and details on the exterior. The original homeowners chose metal for the roof, and a combination of cedar lap siding, wood shingles and steel plate for the exterior, along with battered stone veneer at some window and door openings. A combination of styles and materials that’s both beautiful and functional.
After coming off of the covered entry porch, you enter a foyer space with small built–in display niches on either side. There’s a coat closet on the left, next to the staircase. The great room is straight ahead. It features a ceiling that vaults from 9’6″ at the outer walls to 14’6″ at the center, a built–in partial–height buffet, a bar, a centrally–located fireplace, and a rear wall that is comprised of full height windows and glazed sliding glass doors to bring in light and provide full views to the outdoor terrace. To the left of the great room there is a dining area that also has a wall of windows and glazed doors that walk out to a covered outdoor space at the rear. It’s open to the kitchen and has a niche for a built–in. The spacious kitchen has a built–in pantry, and an eating counter with a prep sink. The wall of windows over the sink area provides views to the rear and brings in plenty of sunshine. Another niche provides a perfect place for a desk/telephone area.
A hallway from the kitchen leads to a powder room, a bedroom suite, a laundry room, and a mudroom that accesses the three–car garage. The mudroom has a coat closet with room for built–in cubbies, and a bench that sits under a window. The garage has windows for natural light and includes a storage/mechanical room. After entering bedroom 2, a display niche is straight ahead for photos and keepsakes. The bedroom has a private bath, and a bay window that could be used as a window seat for reading or lounging. The bath has a linen closet, a shower, one vanity sink and a private toilet room.
To the right of the entry foyer there is a den and a master suite. The den has two walls of windows, one of which is a bay window that looks out to the front. The master bedroom has a gas fireplace, a door that opens to the rear terrace, and windows that look out the rear and side (including a corner window at the terrace). The master bath features a linen closet, a nook for a seat, two vanity sinks, a shower, and a separate whirlpool tub. A door from the bath accesses a nice–sized walk–in closet.
The staircase has a vaulted ceiling, and is illuminated by a pattern of rectangular windows located over the landing that provides a picturesque view out to the front. The upstairs landing opens up to a recreation room/office with a closet and sliding glass doors that open onto an outdoor deck. There are two additional bedrooms and a full bath with a skylight on the upper floor. A portion of bedroom 3 vaults to 9’9″, while the ceiling in bedroom 4 vaults to 10′.
The irregular outline of this handsome house expands the views from each room, along with giving the interior a very unique look and feel. The master suite and a second bedroom suite are located on the main level, positioned at either end of the house, and there are two more bedrooms on the upper level. There's also a recreation space on the upper level with sliding glass doors that open to a sunny deck. There's a covered porch just off the dining room, for outdoor dining, and next to it is an open terrace that can be accessed from both the great room and the master bedroom.
We highly recommend that you click on two boxes – the number of bedrooms you know you need, and one less bedroom. For example, if you need 4 bedrooms, click on the boxes next to 4 and next to 3. Otherwise you will not see homes where existing rooms on the lower, main, or upper levels might work perfectly well as a bedroom instead of as an office, study, etc.
