House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Main level | 9.5 |
Upper level | 8 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

Two stone veneer pillars frame the covered entry courtyard. The entry foyer has a ceiling that vaults to 11’–6″, and walks directly into the great room. The great room has a ceiling that features exposed open wood beams, and it vaults to nearly 14′ in the middle of the room. On the right there is a central fireplace flanked by built–ins on either side, while on the left a long breakfast bar separates it from the kitchen. Sliding glass doors at the far end of the room open onto a large outdoor terrace at the rear. The covered outdoor kitchen/sitting space provides a perfect environment to entertain, and has a generous–sized fire pit to keep you and your guests warm in cooler weather.
The kitchen has a central island with a built–in cook top stove, a walk–in pantry, plenty of counter and cabinet space, and an eating nook. The nook has a ceiling height of almost 13′, with full height windows that look out to the front. The kitchen and dining areas are open to each other, separated only by a long counter and a narrow gallery. Both rooms have a flat ceiling height of 9’6″ with exposed wood beams. The dining room has a built–in buffet along one wall and two walls of folding glass doors that open at the corner, so that when they’re open there is no distinction between indoor and outdoor living space.
A hallway behind the kitchen area has floor to ceiling windows and two glazed doors that open onto a sun terrace at the side yard. The hallway leads to a bedroom suite that has a fireplace, sliding glass doors to a covered patio space, and a private full bath with a walk–in closet, a shower, two vanity sinks, two linen closets, and a private toilet room. The hallway also accesses a mudroom with a coat closet and bench, a laundry room, a powder room, and a door to an outdoor covered walkway. From the walkway, there is a door that opens into a two–car garage with a storage/mechanical room, a nook with a workbench, and a trash room. If you prefer to have the garage walk directly into the house, it would be fairly easy to modify the plan by enclosing the walkway, or reversing the laundry and powder room locations.
To the right of the entry there is a coat closet, a powder room, an office, two bedroom suites, and a staircase to the upper tower room. Bedroom suite 1 faces the front yard, and has a private full bath, a fireplace, a walk–in closet, and a door that walks out to the front. The bath features a tub and a separate shower, a private toilet room, a linen closet, and two vanity sinks. Bedroom suite 2 has a private full bath, a corner fireplace, a walk–in closet, and sliding glass doors that walk out to the rear terrace. The full bath has a shower, a linen closet, a private toilet room, and two vanity sinks.
The upper tower room would make an ideal recreation room or playroom. It adds an additional 186 square feet, and has arched windows that look out in all four directions.
An additional single detached garage has two window bays and storage for a golf cart if needed.

Brief Description
This unique home really emphasizes outdoor living and dining. It features a large covered outdoor kitchen/sitting space located next to the rear terrace that has a sink, an under counter refrigerator, space for a flat–screen TV, a barbeque, and a fire pit. Also just off the terrace is a spa area. Three bedroom suites – each with its own private full bath – jut out from three corners of the home, which creates more opportunities for windows and maximum outdoor views. This provides three options for the master suite!
