House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Main level | 7.5 |
Upper level | 7.5 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

On the first level you enter into an entry hall, which leads to a bedroom with a full bath, and to a stairwell to the right. The bedroom has sliding doors that lead to a small outdoor deck, which is covered by the floor above.
On the second level there is a spacious landing and a hallway that leads to a bedroom with a kitchenette and a hot tub. Further down the hall is a full bath. The square footage on this floor is made slightly larger than the first level by having part of the bedroom extended, and supported by posts.
The third level is an open floor plan with a kitchen, dining area, and living room, and is the same size as the second level. There is a gas fireplace in the living room, and a door that leads to a small deck.
On the fourth level is a third bedroom with a full bath and a hot tub. Upper windows line the walls to grace the room with plenty of sunshine and views. Sliding doors lead to an exterior deck for enjoying the outdoors.

Brief Description
Sky High is a unique four–story house with a very small footprint. It was originally designed in the center of an island with dense vegetation, which effectively hid views of the nearby lake. The architect solved the problem by designing a vertical “tree house”, incorporating four levels above the ground. The result was a cozy, three–bedroom cabin with upper level views to a lake framed by neighboring trees.
