House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |
|
Main level | 10 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

The rear opens up with abundant glass, revealing the spacious lower level and the two–story height of the great room.
The foyer space gives you a view of the magnificent great room straight ahead, which has a vaulted ceiling and exposed wood beams. To the left of the foyer there is a den, and to the right there is a formal dining room with an opening that is framed by a pair of square columns, and features an open box beam ceiling above. As you walk towards the great room, you pass a small hall at the left that leads to a powder room, a coat closet, and the master suite. The master bedroom is filled with sunlight from a pair of glazed doors and windows that look out to the covered deck at the rear. A two–sided fireplace warms the bedroom as well as master bath. An arched opening has a built–in bookcase and cabinet, and glazed windows that let light into the powder room located on the other side. A pair of doors open into a spacious master bath which has a Jacuzzi tub in one light–filled corner and a separate shower in another. The bathroom also features two separate vanity sinks, a private toilet room, a linen cabinet, and a huge walk–in closet that is divided into two spaces.
In the great room, your eye is immediately drawn to an impressive stone fireplace that reaches the two–story ceiling, and is flanked by built–ins on either side. The rear wall is lined with windows and sliding glass doors that look out to the large covered deck at the rear. The covered deck provides a perfect place for outdoor entertaining, with large stone columns that support the roof. The great room is open to a gourmet kitchen that features a large center island with a sink, and abundant counter space. A cozy breakfast nook has a barrel ceiling, and three walls of windows for light and views. A door from the kitchen opens onto the outdoor kitchen on the deck, which has a grill, a cooking stove, and a fireplace.
A hall from the kitchen leads to a guest room suite, which would make an ideal in–law or nanny’s room. It features a full bath, a walk–in closet, and sliding glass doors that walk out to the outdoor kitchen space on the rear deck. The kitchen hall also accesses a walk–in pantry, a mudroom, a powder room, and a good–sized laundry room. The mudroom has a coat closet, room for a bench, and a door to the four–car garage. The spacious garage has an open storage area that is almost 30’x30′, and a stairway that accesses the lower storage room.
After going downstairs to the lower level, you find yourself in a spacious and open recreation room with windows and sliding glass doors to the covered patio at the rear, and a curved bar. A fireplace warms this multi–use room during cooler weather. The room has space for a media area, a billiards area, and a gaming area. Double doors open into a wine cellar, and another pair of doors opens into a spacious walk–in closet. The right wing of this level has a luxurious full bath with a dry sauna attached, and a large storage room with doors to a private stairway that leads to the four–car garage. To the left of the media room, a hallway accesses another spacious storage room, an exercise room, and two bedroom suites. Each bedroom has a walk–in closet, and large full baths with two vanity sinks and a private toilet room. Bedroom 3 has a pair of glazed doors that walks out to the patio, and has a bath that features both a tub and a separate shower.

Brief Description
The many gables on this unique home facing the front, rear, and both sides – have beautiful arched wood detailing beneath them. If built without a lower level, the house has around 4,100 sf of living space, and is designed to have a large master suite and a guest room. However, if you include the lower level, it's designed to have two additional bedroom suites. The great room has a ceiling that rises to two–stories in height, and features a large fireplace that can be enjoyed from other parts of the house. The far wall is filled with tall glazed panels flanking sliding glass doors that open out to a covered deck that spans nearly the entire width of the house. The L–shaped garage at the front can accommodate four cars and still have space for a large workshop or storage.
