House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |
|
Main level | 8.75 |
Upper level | 8 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

MBR |
The Lake Cabin 2 is an impressive three–bedroom home that has a rugged exterior look – with its exterior lap siding and cedar trim work – but the interior has a luxurious look and feel to it. This home provides plenty of interior and exterior spaces to enjoy, with each of the three levels extending out to exterior wood decks at the back of the house, and an exterior fireplace to warm you on cold nights. With its width measuring 32′, this house would work well for those with narrow lots.
One enters the home at the modest entry at the side of the house. This lower entry room has room for built–ins/furniture, and accesses both a laundry room with a utility sink and a two–car garage with space for a workshop and/or storage. A small vestibule from the entry foyer leads to a powder room, a walk–in closet, and an office/guest room with a walk–in closet.
After going up the stairs to the second level, you enter the second entry hall. To the right is a small hall foyer that has doors to two bedrooms and a full bath with a private toilet room. To the left of the entry hall you enter the great room, which has a grand central fireplace, and is flanked on both sides by double glazed doors that walk out to the outdoor covered deck and the open deck beyond it. Windows on both sides of the great room flood the room with natural light and views. The additional 4’–deep spaces on both sides of the great room have a sloped ceiling above with two skylights on each side that bring in additional sunlight to the room. The spaces also provide a nook for built–ins, such as a desk or cabinets, and also an opportunity to have more windows at the end walls. A new covered deck adjoins the existing outdoor deck to provide even more outdoor living space. The covered deck features a vaulted ceiling with skylights above, and provides a comfortable environment to entertain and enjoy the outdoors. The great room is open to a spacious kitchen with an oversized counter and a large walk–in pantry.
The entire top floor is devoted to the master bedroom suite. A door from the bedroom opens into an office/sitting room with a large picture window that includes walk–in closets on either side of the room. The master bath offers a private toilet room, two vanity sinks, a tub, and a separate shower. An (optional) two–sided fireplace provides warmth and ambiance to both the bedroom and bath. A pair of glazed doors opens out to a private covered deck with a fireplace hearth that extends from the main level and reaches the vaulted ceiling with skylights above. The intimate and cozy space feels like an extension of the bedroom that can be enjoyed all year round.

Brief Description
With a footprint size of 32'x54', Lake Cabin 2 is only 2' longer than the original Lake Cabin home, but offers 669 SF of additional living space. The square footage was increased by taking some of the workshop space on the original ground floor and adding an office with a walk–in closet, enlarging the family room on the main level by removing the jogs and continuing the walls on the main level, and by utilizing the upper attic spaces next to the original master dressing area. The attic spaces have been converted into two separate closets, which creates an opportunity for an office/sitting area where the dressing area used to be. An added covered deck off of the great room provides additional outdoor living space.
