House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Main level | 10 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

The combination of stone and cedar on the exterior of Mountain Retreat gives this home a rustic and rugged appearance, meant to withstand the mountain environment. The interior is open and spacious – including a two–story great room –– producing an atmosphere that’s both elegant and warm. A classic example of ranch floor plans with an open concept layout.
The covered entry porch is supported by square columns atop stone pillars, and is wide enough to hold outdoor furniture. The generous–sized entry foyer has a view to the two–story high great room straight ahead, and a stairwell to the right. To the left, a pair of doors opens into a den with a vaulted ceiling and exposed wood collar ties. A small hallway leads to a coat closet, a powder room, and the master suite. The master bedroom has sliding glass doors, flanked by windows on either side, which open onto the covered deck at the rear. A two–sided fireplace warms up both the bedroom and the bath, which is located on the other side. The master bath features a tub in one corner with windows on two walls, a separate shower, a private toilet room, a linen closet, and access to a walk–in closet. The spacious walk–in is divided into two spaces, has room for a dresser, and has a window seat that looks out to the front.
The great room has a ceiling that reaches over 19′ in height, and is filled with sunlight from the sliding glass doors at the rear and the dormer windows that face the front and back. A stone fireplace is flanked on either side by built–ins, and it reaches the ceiling above. The room is open to the kitchen, which has a large center island with a sink, and an extended counter for eating. A dining nook juts out to the covered deck, with three walls of windows for sunlight and views, and a glazed door that accesses the deck. From the kitchen, a hall leads to a guest suite that has its own private full bath. The mudroom, which has room for a bench and built–ins, accesses a walk–in pantry, a coat closet, a laundry room, and a three–car garage. The garage has windows and dormer windows for natural light, and extra space for storage.
The lower level has an open and spacious recreation room, with space for a billiards area, a gaming area, and a media area. It has a fireplace to warm the room, and a wet bar. A bedroom suite with a walk–in closet and a full bath is situated on this level, and the bathroom can also be accessed from the recreation room. A hallway leads to a large unfinished storage room, and two additional bedrooms, each of which has a walk–in closet, and which share a full bath.

Brief Description
This one–story mountain–style house can be built as a 2–bedroom house if you choose not to construct the lower level, but with the lower level there's room for three more bedrooms, and a spacious and open area with a wet bar for entertaining. The view is oriented to the rear, where a covered deck wraps around the great room, the dining room, and the master bedroom. Kitchen, dining and great room are open to each other, and the ceiling in the great room rises to just over 19'. There are two fireplaces in the house – one in the great room facing the kitchen, and another in the master suite that can be enjoyed from both the bedroom and the bath.
