House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

The covered entry porch gives you a glimpse of the interior through the large picture window above the door, and smaller windows that frame the door. The foyer is open to combination living and dining space that features a dramatic vaulted ceiling. To the right is a den/study, which has a door to a covered outdoor porch that is accessible from the living room as well. As you walk past the stairwell, a kitchen and family room are to the right. A fireplace warms the family room area, and a door leads to an outdoor deck. A breakfast nook is enclosed with glass windows, bringing outdoor views and plenty of sunshine. From the family room, a hallway leads to a guest room, a full bath, a laundry/sewing room, and a two–car garage.
The upstairs is devoted to the master bedroom suite and exercise room. The master bedroom has bay windows to the rear, and a unique ceiling design that steps up.

The master suite along with an exercise room occupy the upper level of the house, while on the main there's a guest bedroom with a full bath, a den/study off the foyer, a sunny breakfast nook off the kitchen, and both a living and a family room.
