House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Main level | 8.75 |
Upper level | 8 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

Lake Cabin is a three–story home with a two–car garage, large workshop, and a laundry room on the ground level; the main living spaces and two small bedrooms on the second level; and a large master suite on the third. Large fireplaces face the family room and kitchen on the middle floor and the large deck off the master bedroom on the top floor. Small windows on either side were chosen for privacy, but your builder could install larger windows if you prefer them.
One enters the house at the modest entry at the side of the house. This lower entry room has a storage closet, room for built–ins, and access to the laundry room with a private toilet, and to the two–car garage, which features extra space for a workshop or storage. After going up the stairs to the second level, you enter the second entry hall. To the right is another hall foyer, which has doors to the two bedrooms and bathroom. This foyer has a sliding pocket door, enabling you to close off this portion of the house. To the left of the entry hall you enter the great room, which has a grand central fireplace, and is flanked on both sides by a window and door opening to the outdoor deck. On the north side of the great room is a large and roomy kitchen with an oversized pantry room.
The entire second floor is devoted to the master bedroom suite. It has a large master dressing room, which has access to more storage space in the attic. The spacious bathroom offers an individual toilet room, as well as a separate shower and bathtub. There is a two–sided gas fireplace to be enjoyed from both the bedroom and bathroom. The north side of the room opens up to a large exterior deck with a tower–like hearth extending from the main level, which houses the exterior wood burning fireplace.
We now offer a second version of this house on the site, called Lake Cabin 2.

Brief Description
It's called Lake Cabin, but it would work well in many different settings, and is designed for year–long living. This is a three–story house, with a 2–car garage, a large workshop, and a laundry on the lowest level; 2 bedrooms on the middle level, and a couple's realm at the top. There are two 24'–wide decks – one off the living room just beyond a large fireplace, and another off the master bedroom with an outdoor fireplace at the far end. The original homeowners wanted small windows on the sides of the house for privacy, but these can of course be larger if you'd like.
