House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

After coming off the covered porch, you enter a foyer space with a coat closet and an open stairwell. To the left is a formal dining room with French doors that divide it from the kitchen beyond. To the right of the foyer is a study or guest room with two closets. Straight ahead is an open great room, with abundant windows to the rear, and a breakfast nook with bay windows. A fireplace, flanked by built–ins, is at the end of the room to warm the open living space. A breakfast bar separates the great room from the kitchen. An island with an extended counter for eating sits in the center of the kitchen for additional counter space, and a desk and a pantry are at either corner of the kitchen. From the kitchen, a small hall leads to a powder room, a coat closet, a laundry room with a utility sink, and a three–car garage with a shop/storage space.
At the top of the stairs, the landing opens up to a sunny sitting room with a vaulted ceiling. To the right of the sitting room is the master bedroom suite, with a vaulted ceiling as well. The master bath has a tub, a separate shower, and a walk–in closet. On the other side of the stairwell there are a full bath, two more bedrooms, and a large family room at the end of the hall. The family room has access to a large storage room, which sits under the slopes of the roof.

Brief Description
An 8' wide porch wraps around three sides of this home, providing plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. It features traditional wood detailing, such as exterior wood shutters, and decorative wood posts with rails between them along the covered porch. On the main level there's a spacious great room with a fireplace at one end, a kitchen with a breakfast nook set into a bay filled with windows, a formal dining room, and a room at the front that would be perfect for an office or a guest room. The master suite is upstairs, along with two more bedrooms, an open loft space with a vaulted ceiling, and a 400sf “bonus” room over a portion of the garage.
