House height
Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.

Ceiling heights Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase. |

Main level | 10 |
Upper level | 9 |
Vaulted ceilings
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

This house can be easily modified to include a full in–law unit on the main floor. If this is of interest to you, please read the section near the end of this Description titled In–Law Unit.
After walking through the arched covered opening, you enter a two–story foyer space with a curved stairwell to the right. To the left are a formal dining room, and a centrally located powder room. As you continue down the foyer, you pass a vestibule at the right, which leads to a study with a fireplace. As you approach the open family room, there is a small hall that leads to the master bedroom suite. The master bedroom has vaulted ceilings, a bay window looking out to the rear, and a door that accesses the covered veranda at the rear. A pair of doors opens into a spacious master bath, which has a whirlpool tub, a separate shower, a private toilet, and two walk–in closets.
The foyer turns into an open gallery, which is open to a sunny family room. A central fireplace is at one end of the room, and windows along with a door look out to the covered veranda. With an outdoor grill station and an outdoor fireplace, the veranda provides an ideal space for entertaining. As you continue down the gallery, you enter a kitchen with a huge center island for prep work and eating. A breakfast nook is open to the family room, and looks out to and accesses the covered veranda. Off of the kitchen is a small vestibule that leads to a walk–in pantry, and a two–car garage. The garage has a rear stairwell with a large picture window, for those who may want to expand the upper floor and build above it. From the kitchen, you enter a mudroom, which has a secondary stairwell, closets and built–ins, a laundry room, a door that leads to the side yard, and a door that leads to a one-car garage with a “porte-cochere.”
The upper floor is sure to make anyone with kids happy. Each of the three bedrooms has a walk–in closet and its own full bath, with one of the bathrooms having two doors for public use. A huge game room has a wet bar, a fireplace, a private balcony, and a vaulted ceiling that reaches 18′ high. A media room is also located on this floor, and a nook for a computer station.
In–Law Unit
Convert the Master bedroom, bath, and closet area to an in–law unit (including the Study, if you need more room), and then turn the game room upstairs into a unique and dramatic Master bedroom, and either suite 3 or 4 into the master bath.
