Traditionally, the overall height of a house is determined by measuring from the top of the finished floor on the main level, to the highest peak of the roof.
Raising or lowering the height of the ceilings on one or more floors of a house is often a simple change that can be made by your builder. However, if you want to raise the ceiling of the main floor of a two-story home, there has to be room to add steps to the existing staircase.
We consider a room to be vaulted if the ceiling - whether flat, angled, or curved - is above 10 feet at its highest point. If you prefer that one or more rooms not be vaulted in your new home, this is a very simple change that your builder can make for you.

The entry foyer has a stairway to the upper level, and a coat closet, with a large opening into an oversized living room. The living room features a generous fireplace that is flanked by windows and is open to the dining room as well. The dining room has a pair of French doors that open to the side yard, which would be an ideal location for a side deck or patio for outdoor dining. The dining room is open to the gourmet kitchen, which has a center island with a cookstove and a raised counter for eating, and a corner nook for a built–in desk or shelf. A pair of swinging doors from the dining room open into a private den/office. From the kitchen, a rear hallway leads to a powder room, a utility/laundry room, a two–car garage, and a mudroom which accesses the rear yard. Due to the original site location, the garage is located at the rear of the home, but this could easily be relocated to the side of the house, or built as a detached garage.
The upper level has two bedrooms, a full bath, a linen closet, and a master suite that takes up more than half of the upper floor! The master bedroom features a large walk–in closet, and the bath has a private toilet, two vanity sinks, a tub, and a separate shower.
